Springfield Hospital's Emergency Department fulfills a vital role in the community, historically providing care for more than 10,000 patients per year. With the opening of the hospital's expanded Emergency Department in November 2008, the state-of-the art facility is now equipped to treat 12,000 to 22,000 patients per year.
The newly renovated and expanded facility with 6,000 square feet, up from 1,900 square feet, features:
- More patient treatment areas – The department now features nine private rooms as well as two Fast Track bays, which are used to allow patients with less serious issues to get in and out of the ED quickly.
- A wireless bedside registration system, which allows patients to lie comfortably while essential information for their care and treatment is entered and processed.
- A new electronic documentation system allows hospital staff access to a patient’s records wherever he or she is in the hospital, and also keeps track of previous visits. Electronic bedside registration allows patients to lie in their private room while information is collected.
- Separate entrances for ambulance and walk-in traffic ensures that those with the most urgent needs are identified immediately and treated as soon as possible. Walk-in patients and their loved ones can also relax in an expanded waiting area.
- Separate registration and triage areas that offer complete privacy while sharing personal information.
