Trauma bays in the self-contained trauma area of Crozer's new Emergency Department.
Crozer-Chester Medical Center's new $24 million state-of-the-art Emergency Department officially opened on October 10, 2006. The 40,000-square-foot building enables Crozer to meet the growing needs of our community. Twice the size of the previous Emergency Department, the new building houses Crozer’s Emergency Department and the Crozer Regional Trauma Center.
The trauma area of Crozer's Emergency Department is self-contained so that critically injured patients can be brought to a dedicated area that is equipped with supplies and equipment necessary to life-saving efforts and staffed with clinicians certified in trauma care.
The facility has four specially equipped trauma resuscitation rooms — including one isolation bay for burn patients — where the trauma team treats critically injured patients to restore their airway, breathing and blood circulation. This life-saving treatment also avoids secondary damage to the vital organs due to lack of oxygen-carrying blood. There are two additional medical resuscitation rooms for use by the Emergency Department staff in treating heart attack patients, for example. Thus, the new facility doubles the current number of resuscitation rooms.
The Crozer Emergency Department also has a dedicated CT Scanner/Diagnostic Imaging Suite, which eliminates the need for patients to be transported to other areas of the medical center for diagnostic procedures, saving precious time.
