Discharge from the Emergency Department

Patients who are released from the ER will be prescribed necessary medication and given discharge instructions before leaving. These directions will have information about how to care for the patient’s illness or injury, as well as information about follow-up care and whom to call if the problem persists or worsens.

After receiving instruction on aftercare guidelines, patients should proceed to the Registration Check-Out office to speak with one of our Patient Access Representatives. A financial counselor and/or registrar will also be available to answer any questions patients may have regarding coverage and financial responsibility for the ER visit.

Some insurance plans require patients to pay a specified co-payment amount to the hospital prior to discharge.  Many insurance cards have this information on the front side of the card.  To better serve our patients and help them avoid billed charges at a later date, we ask that this co-payment amount be paid upon discharge from the ER. For your convenience, we accept cash, personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express for this payment.

Patients who do not have medical insurance coverage will receive information regarding the CKHS Uninsured/Underinsured policy from the Patient Access staff in the Check-Out office. Patients may also call our billing office at 610-490-7900 with any questions regarding financial arrangements.

We value patient feedback. To help ensure patient satisfaction, we send surveys to some of our patients to ask about their ER experience. We ask patients to return these surveys as soon as possible.
